Leading Lights: Glastonbury 2015

Even those of us who gave Glasto a miss can enjoy the design inspirations a weekend in the mud can bring.

With the minimal stage sets major festivals demand, the unsung heroes of musicfests are often the technicians. These wizards conjure up a stunning array of sound and light effects to help each act stand out and excite the crowd.

Let's take a look at some of the leading light effects of Glastonbury 2015:
Florence + the Machine
This exploding silver back splash – as hard to capture in motion as the lady herself – provides the perfect amount of dazzle to underscore the performance of an artist making the most of her mainstage debut. No doubt this effect is augmented by her glitter-fabulous suit. But if you doubted the power of tricksy metallic light or wall effects to add glamour, here is proof positive.  Use sparingly with muted colour for impact.

Lionel Ritchie
It's been a while since Mr. Ritchie was at the top, but that didn't stop 250,000 from turning up to hear his 80s brand of longing. Fitting then this brash wall of tangled, pulsating neons in classic 80s hues. Part Pollack, part punk and 100% on trend.  Fun in small doses or awesome at scale - works best where it's least expected.  Ignore the tacky allure of neon at your peril.

Kanye

Despite his modest take on his career as 'the biggest rock star on the planet',  Kanye would really like to be our bit of glammed up 'down and dirty'.  What better way way to achieve this effect than to stick every can light available into a low ceiling, then roll them on in directional waves of light.  With a different white-gold tone for every moody effect, not only will you love chilling out in honey-toned room light,  you will also look FABULOUS.  Glasto techs, TYMO salutes you.
